As many as 22,000 children in West Virginia live with a relative instead of their parents due to the impact of the opioid crisis and other unforeseen issues.
Many Kinship families, including grandparents and even great grandparents, need extra support as they provide care to children unexpectedly added to their family. The Children’s Home Society of West Virginia is working to support kinship & grandfamilies in creative ways by providing information, assistance with basic needs, training, support groups, and connection to additional services through our Resource Centers, our Family Support Centers, and our Foster Care programs across the state. We connect grandfamilies with their local Healthy Grandfamilies Program where they can access additional support and training. Kinship parents may choose to become certified foster parents through our Foster Care Program.
