Family Resource Centers

Our Resource Centers play an important role in our efforts to help families in their own communities across the state.

They provide a variety of items to help meet emergent needs and assist families during times of financial hardships.

During the 2021-2022 fiscal year, our Resource Centers assisted 4,155 individuals statewide. These children and their families were able to benefit from the in-kind support given to CHS by numerous businesses, individuals, churches, and civic groups throughout West Virginia.

Mid-Town Family Resource Center

Mid-Town Family Resource Center, located at the Parkersburg Community Based Services site, offers programs focused on neighborhood-based prevention, youth development, and supporting neighborhood families. These programs include:

  • after school care with academic help (see below for more information)
  • child abuse prevention by strengthening families
  • positive youth development
  • service learning opportunities
  • a clothing closet and food pantry

After school care is provided for students at Jefferson Elementary Center (K-5) through the Mid-Town Family Resource Center. Licensed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, this fee-based program accepts students whose parents receive subsidized child care assistance as well as those who are able to pay their own fees. The program’s goals include raising academic achievement, promoting family and community involvement, and teaching responsibility through service learning projects.
