Starting in the late 1800’s, school-age children would save their pennies all year long and put them in socks. Then, just before Christmas, they would take them to local schools. The principles would then take the coin-filled socks to the nearby orphanage to help children without families. This heartfelt giving provided each child with a new coat, hat, gloves, and a new toy. The children would wake up on Christmas morning to find that they had not been forgotten.
As we keep the holiday tradition of family and gift giving in mind, we shall not let children in need be forgotten.
How the Little Red Stocking Campaign works:
- Agree to partner with the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia this holiday season in support of vulnerable children.
- Ask your customers if they would like to help support children across the state for one dollar.
- For their support, they receive a Little Red Stocking, on which they can write their name to be displayed on the wall of your business.
- A unique, scannable bar code printed on the reverse side of each Little Red Stocking makes tracking easy. Proceeds are collected at the end of the campaign. The funds will be used to support children cared by the Children’s Home Society. All funds raised, stay in the community where they were raised. The Children’s Home Society has 28 service locations throughout the state which allows us to provide services to all 55 counties.
