Jennifer Garner – Purchases
First Little Red Stocking
Supporting the Children’s Home Society
of WV
Charleston, WV – Charleston native
and star of the hit TV show Alias, Jennifer Garner kicked
off this year’s
Little Red Stocking Campaign. “I
hope that when people see the Little Red Stockings they will
join me in giving to help the kids. The red stocking is a
reminder that not all children have been blessed with parents
and loved ones that can provide for them.” said Garner.
Funds raised by this annual campaign help the Children’s
Home Society of West Virginia continue its mission of providing
the highest quality, most compassionate care possible to
children in need. Little Red Stocking Fund monies support
the Society’s operating budget and thus touch the lives
of 7,500 children each year in communities
across West Virginia.
More than 350 businesses, schools, and offices across West
Virginia (see list) are partnering to gift the gift
of hope and happiness for children who have little of either.
For just $1.00 you too can give the gift of hope and happiness
to these children by purchasing a stocking.
In 2004, the Society cared for 6500 children
and 7500 children in 2005. The Little Red Stocking Fund campaign
will help
the Society care for even more children this year.
Although holiday time is fun and exciting for many children,
it is often a difficult time for children in out of home
care,
families in distress, and children and parents impacted by
financial concerns, domestic violence and other issues. Many
children are without families, not living in their own homes,
separated from friends and even family pets. “The critical services and the little extras like holiday
gifts that the Little Red Stocking Fund campaign provides
year-round
to children in need by no means replaces what they have lost
in terms of childhood happiness and family stability,” said
the
Society’s CEO Dennis W. Sutton. “But they are
so necessary to helping children rebuild and cope and otherwise
retain at
least some happy memories of childhood. The donations made
through the Little Red Stocking Fund send a message to
children and their families that someone cares about them.”
The Little Red Stocking Fund campaign is an annual holiday
giving campaign of Children’s Home Societies throughout
the
United States. For more than 100 years, the red stocking
has been the symbol of holiday hope for children and families
in
need. Each year, local Little Red Stocking campaigns across
the nation ensure that children in foster care, those waiting
to
be adopted, and those enduring family stress receive the
quality care they need.
